DO NOT LEAVE PLUG

I have bought this little iron twice and it has served my purposes well. I sew and would like to have a small iron in my sewing room. I've never used the steam function because I don't think they don't leak (on this iron or any other). Both irons lasted about five years with perhaps slightly below average usage. I don't sew every day or sometimes even every week. It gets very hot and won't turn itself off, which is a plus in a sewing workshop, but it does take some time to cool down even after it's turned off/unplugged. The cord would be more useful as a swivel as it will loosen where it exits the iron if the iron is rotated in different ways. I used it today and it suddenly started smoking. I looked down and saw that the wire had partially melted and sparks were flying. A lot of soot fell on my project. I turned it off right away. My concern is that if I ended up using it without realizing something was wrong and left it off but on, it might continue to melt/start sparking after I left the room and then I would have a real problem. . Or when I turned it on to warm up and then left the room to do something else while it was warming up. I am writing to urge people who have this iron to pay attention to this area of the cord so that they will notice signs of weakness and that people do not leave this iron on when not in use or when you are out of the room. with this.
