Terrible experience with this item

This is probably only the second or third time I've reviewed a product on Revain (I'm lazy) but I've had a very scary experience with this mattress topper. Tomorrow and I feel compelled to post it. Bought October 2015, used winter 2015-16, removed spring 2016, washed according to directions and kept all summer. I probably put it back on in November 2016 and have been using it almost every night since. I'm wary of the whole idea of electrically heating things, so I just use the pillow to heat the bed before I get in it and then turn it off when I'm reading or watching TV for 10-15 minutes. . The carpet didn't heat the bed as well as last year, but it was ok. One day last fall I was fumbling next to the controller on the side of the bed I don't sleep on. I noticed that the floor (wood) was damp. I touched it with my hand and there was a small puddle of sticky colorless liquid and I noticed that there was some sort of white solid on top of the controller. I thought my cleaning lady might have run over it with a mop or something. It was once or twice, the same small amount of sticky liquid, even if my cleaning lady hasn't been around lately. This didn't happen with the other controller, which is closer to the plug and sits on the floor next to the bed I sleep on. So last night it was unseasonably warm in Connecticut, and I don't bother putting my pillow down before I go to bed. I lay there this morning after hitting the snooze button a few times and I smelled what was like burnt plastic. I was half asleep and thought I had imagined it. I continued to smell his scent and it seemed to be getting stronger. Eventually I got up and started sniffing the bed. I made sure the controller on my side of the bed was turned off. When I got to the other side of the bed, I saw that it didn't work either, but I picked it up anyway. It was so hot that I immediately threw it away. A puddle of sticky, colorless liquid formed on the floor again, I went down and sniffed it - yes, that's all. It should be melted plastic. The top of the controller was now completely covered in hard crap, which I noticed last fall. I ran to the other side of the bed and yanked the plug out of the wallโ€”it went straight into a grounded outlet. I disabled the controls and put them on my deck where they are still. I've attached a few photos. It's a nice clean - the other controller still looks brand new. It's been 12 hours now and my right hand still smells like melted plastic even after taking a shower and washing my hands 3 or 4 times today. Based on what I've seen in other customer reviews I won't even try to contact Sunbeam. I just consider myself lucky - I don't know how long it took for it to catch fire. No other (one-star) reviews report a similar incident, so maybe it's just a weird thing. But I no longer need to heat the bed with electricity - I cover myself with heating pads.
