Works well but can damage walls

This is a cute little gate that prevents small dogs from walking through the door on their way to the cat treat tray. This is the second gate I've bought as I have two trays to keep my small dog outside. It's pretty easy to put on, it's very solid and the door opens easily. I wanted a goal that was easy to step over and we're good at that for the most part. our feet are a little higher, at least for a while. What I don't like about the new gate is that they redesigned the metal bar on the door that latches/holds the door in place. It is flat on two sides and round on the other two sides where the ancient gate only had a full circle. The newer version is harder to hold on to and I've found that the handle sometimes twists, requiring me to squeeze it a few times to pull. Old gate lock, I can pull without looking (even with my toes, so I don't have to bend down at all). I don't like the new knobs at all. Older gates have grooved rings that are easy to hold and turn no matter how you grip them. The new knobs are flat and much harder to turn, especially in tight spaces next to the door frame. Both doors use a rubberized tension mount which unfortunately not only tears off the paint but also tears off part of the wall panel when removed. So when I eventually move in, I'll have to fix pieces of wall that are 8.2" to 3" in diameter. If you don't tighten them as tightly as a determined dog can move when you do, and leave them in place for a while, the walls will be damaged. At least in my house, where I only take them with me. Down for deep cleaning/vacuuming or the occasional moving of furniture. I like the convenience of the (fairly) easy pedaling and that it keeps the Maltese away from the cat crates. All of the other gates are either too high for us to climb over and the older cats jumped slightly, or they are standing alone which wouldn't hold my little fella for 30 seconds. So I accept the bad along with the good.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Not secure
