Review on Stay Hands-Free With The MindShift Gear PhotoCross 10 Sling Bag In Carbon Gray by Alfred Paiz

Looks great on paper, but is lacking in the real world

1. Background info: I have 2-3 Mindshift Gear Rotation Packs along with one of their newer traditional photo backpacks and I have a lot of Think Tank gear. Bottomline, if anything, I hugely biased towards MIndshift Gear / Think Tank.2. Bottomline Random thoughts: Yes, on paper, the specs on this sling bag are impressive, however the practical use, although ok, it's just that ok. re: Build Quality: Excellent. On the other hand, because it's built so well and the fabrics are waterproof (or resistant?) the actual "feel" of the bag is. plasticky and stiff and as such, it lends itself to the feel of being "boxy", which is what I don't want when I'm using a sling bag. re: Zippers: because this bag is meant to be weather proof to some extent, the zippers are that smooth; often requires a two handed approach. It is what it is, but I would rather have the functionality of a one handed zipper operation. " re: Size: very roomy; can't complain about that. re: Functionality: Although the bag is roomy, it drives me nuts in that when fully open, the main flap tends to close on itself; I mean, when you're in the field and want to change lens, you have to deal with the stupid flap tending to flop down on itself; Terrible design. Again, I have a feeling this may be related to the materials used to make the bag; a stiff type fabric. re: Functionality: One of the reasons I got this bag was that it had attachment points on the outside for a small tripod. As some have noted, the straps that are on the bag for this purpose is completely useless in that the smallest you can make the strap is still too big to properly hold a small tripod. I mean, come on Mindshift Gear; did you guys actually test this bag? If you want to hold a small tripod, you'll need to rig a bunny type system.3. Unfortunately, this could have been a great sling, but only if the Mindshift folks simply talked to / looked at the ThinkTank sling and modified that design for the outdoors. The ThinkTank sling is much better designed, is more comfortable, is easier to use in real world conditions, but lacks the weather proofing as well as outside attachment points.
