I have a Macbook Pro and wanted to run a huge 49 inch monitor with a single cable and still get the maximum resolution I need. If your monitor doesn't have USB-C Thunderbolt 3, this task might be difficult to accomplish. I have a Caldigit TS3+ that acts as an intermediary between my MBP and my monitor. I wasn't particularly happy that I had to spend so much money on a cable, but I realized that Thunderbolt cables don't come cheap. And you can't just buy any Thunderbolt cable for this purpose. It should be 4K 60Hz - 40Gbps. You cannot use a cable without this specification. I'm surprised to read some of the negative reviews about this brand. It has been highly recommended by monitor users on the Mac/Apple forums. In fact, this brand has been repeatedly named as one of the most trusted Thunderbolt 3 cable manufacturers. This cable has worked flawlessly for me for a number of years. Also, the connector is very durable as I'm constantly moving my laptop from my office monitor to my lap requiring me to constantly plug and unplug the cable. The connector seems very solid, which is a very important factor when considering a product like this. I can tell you from experience that this is a great cable that performs exceptionally well.
