Review on πŸ“Ί Micca MPLAY-HD Mini: Ultimate Full-HD Digital Media Player for USB Drives and SD Cards by Jay Jeong

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This is a Micca Mini Media Player that can be purchased in place of the Micca Spec 2

Update (9/11/2020): I ran into the clicking issue that others have mentioned. I mentioned my situation on the forum and someone mentioned that MP4 format is just a wrapper around the video. So the problem is most likely in the coding. I ended up using the software to convert and save a trial mkv snapshot video. This test went without clicks. This is not a perfect solution as I still don't understand why Micca plays some MP4 files well and not others. But if someone has the know-how and patience to convert and save the problematic video to mkv format, it might work. Much luck! Update (07/13/2020): I have decided to downgrade this Micca Media Player from 5 stars to 4 stars. The reason is the IR sensor of the Micca player. Basically, the IR sensor on the media player doesn't read the signal from the remote control well. Not only is good line of sight required, but I also had to move the remote very close (in inches) to the turntable to get the correct signal. Continuing to sit and watch the program proved to be a frustrating experience, as every attempt to use the remote was either successful or unsuccessful. Fortunately, there is a solution (which costs about an extra $15). The solution is to purchase an IR repeater kit/remote control extension cable. The one I received is made by BAFX Products. A connector on the cable is a sensor for reading the remote control signal. I connect it to my TV. Another connector is located next to the sensor of the MICCA player. With the repeater/remote extender kit, now even with the Micca remote control, everything works as originally intended. Below is the first review: ------------------------- ---- I recently bought a device that doesn't even need a computer to digitize old videotapes. Although I haven't had time to digitize my old tapes yet (I've done a few test runs), I figured that instead of just viewing the digitized files on my computer, I could use something to watch videos without leaving my TV . So I was looking for a media player. After the usual searching and reading reviews on Revain and Youtube videos, I ended up with a Micca Speck G2. The Speck G2 worked well except for one major flaw. The downside is that the videos got dark and there's no brightness adjustment. So I went ahead and returned the Speck G2 player and after trying a few other players that didn't work either, I stumbled upon the Micca MPLAY-HD Mini. . The Mini has controls for brightness, contrast, saturation and hue (which I didn't need to adjust as everything worked fine by default, but it's nice to know it's there). Look at the history compared to Spec G2. The Spec G2 was first available from Revain in 2012. Mini in 2017. The Mini's operating system runs smoother and, as mentioned, has video controls. For not much more expensive, between the two, I think the Mini is the way to go. The Mini itself is small. Measures less than 3 inches long and wide and about 1.5 inches tall. It is made in China but has a clear instruction manual. It has two USB ports (one on the back and one on the front) and a micro SD slot for memory cards. (Personal preference, but I'd prefer a full-size SD slot as it's easier for me to work with). Regarding the remote, use the TV fairly close to the remote so the signal responds when you point the Mini. I'm not sure how to react if I say more. The buttons on the remote have noticeable click feedback, which is nice. Though the remote doesn't look like it's going to break anytime soon. Over time I'd say if anything wears out on the Mini I'd say probably the remote. Mini media player 5 stars. Now all I have to do is convert those old VHS tapes!

Pros
  • . Good product for the price
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
