The monitor stand is very stable and looks good on my desk (ordered white for my desk with white top). I can hide my laptop underneath, and the phone stand comes in handy for keeping my phone upright and in view (rather than on a table and potentially obscured). Remember that the width of the stand is adjustable, not the height. So check what height you need and if it offers it. For me this works great as my monitor itself can't go high enough and it allows me to adjust the monitor to the correct height. The riser is about 3 inches high. Also, the riser is a bit narrow (about 7.5 inches deep). The base of my 27 inch monitor hangs about 1.5 inches. I don't have any stability issues, but there are things to watch out for, especially if you have a large monitor with a larger base.
