I like reading reviews online. Some people give it 1 star because the item was damaged. Serious? Or they say that they washed it and broke their tongue the first day. Most likely it was damaged in transit (which happens from time to time). I've also read that the opening at the top is awkward or something, but I'm not sure what they mean because we've never had a problem with flakes spurting out, even crushed mini stuff. You may need to shake it a bit from time to time, but that's about it. Send it back and try again if it's broken. My family has had 4 of these for almost 4 years and the lids still snap in place like the day we bought them. Does it fit in giant cereal boxes, no, but it fits perfectly in a standard box and since we've tried them our cereals and grains stay fresh for a long time. I'm not entirely sure if they're dishwasher safe, but we never tested them. It takes up a lot of space there, and it's grain dust, which anyway only needs to be washed and lightly cleaned with a rag or sponge. In my opinion they are worth their money.
