I love this item and another in my collection, but cleaning it has been a mystery until now. You can't use rags to keep them away from the coarse grit. The same goes for paper towels. Only vacuum them when it comes to dust and dirt. Decision? Tencel baby wipes from Costco. I bought a whole batch of these to which I add a very dilute solution of bleach and water. I've had to disinfect surfaces and have tried them on rough wood (fully expecting the wood protection police to come to me, but the Covid-19 season has retired). They work great - no fibers remain in the grain, everything is dusty and without crumbs. It must be the tencel that prevents the pieces of wood from entering. You can of course do without bleach.
