Reading some of the reviews below, I remembered that I use a Mac (17" iMac 1.25GHz, 768 RAM): all normally works. The PF1800 is actually a good, if not great, scanner. I scan all my dad's slides and it gives good, user-friendly results. I use 1200-3000 dpi, which allows me to print good quality images at manageable file sizes. "It used to be I used an Epson flatbed scanner with a slide attachment, which was much slower and could not reliably reproduce high-quality scans.The PF1800 gets the job done, if not perfectly: it has problems with darker slides, which nonetheless become very grainy Various manipulations of that too CyberView 35 driver on Mac OS X (Panther) is not without glitches: it often mysteriously calls the old scan when uploading a NEW slide and freezes from time to time. I had no issues with overheating during an ADVANCED scan. But it's MUCH cheaper than the rest and it WORKS. I've made about a thousand slides with it so far.
