I've owned the C-2 for about a year now and I can say I'm more attracted to them than any other mic I've owned ( The winner should be a blue baby bottle because it's so damn versatile!). A little about my context: I'm a music technology teacher, performer and composer. In terms of time breakdown, these three roles add up to roughly 70/20/10. I've used the C-2 to record guitars with students, mike choirs for school performances, and even capture ambient noise for in-ear headphones during performances. What I like: - Excellent value for money. They are at the lower end of the price range but offer performance that is fully usable in different contexts. Will I use them to record classical guitar? No, but any studio you go to will have a great SDC. The C-2 also comes with a windscreen, microphone clips and a stereo mount. Durability is also excellent. Working with students (teachers, you know) means sometimes you'll say "Oops, I forgot that!" or "I think the stand just fell off." I haven't broken anything with the C-2 yet , cracked or crumbled. They survive being thrown in my gear bag (a converted husky tool bag), transported to and from concerts (latino dance group), and picked up by students of all ages. Here's what I don't like: Microphone sensitivity is tricky. for gain control. I mean, in applications where the audio source is static, or you may or may not want to record audio, the C-2s shine. But I didn't find them very subtle in terms of capturing dynamic changes. I adjust the gain to get a good signal and then either "We got it!" or "We can't hear it". So to me, they're more suited to live performance and performance than recording. My recommendation? If you're looking for a microphone that costs next to nothing, offers durability and predictable results, the C-2 is for you. Classroom use, technology teaching, reference/scratch recording and live performance are areas where the C-2 excels. If you're looking for a mic to create standout guitar or choral recordings to submit to competitions or sell online, I highly recommend looking elsewhere (e.g. the Avantone CK-1).
