This is a good waterproof cover but the person I bought it for wanted a soft one so I swapped it out for a "premium" version and she is very happy . Since they have the same base coat I can confirm it works as I washed it once in my heavy duty washing machine. Somehow, if the lid isn't installed properly, it actually catches the water and keeps it out of the washing machine, which is a real surprise when you take it out of the washing machine when it pours water all over your feet and floor. After this experience I found that if you put a cover on inside out I would say that it is really successful in preventing water from entering your mattress!
