At the age of 2 years our Catahoula mix puppy was diagnosed with Canine Atopic Dermatitis. He is mostly allergic to poultry, grain, grass and life in general. Louie is now 13, 13 years old and weighs 69 pounds and we have tried special dog diets, wiped him after he went outside and given him a daily dose of 16mg of Apoquel to stop biting, licking and scratching . In December 2021, Louis had an ear infection and his butt became inflamed due to an allergy outbreak. The vet doubled the dose of Apoquel and later offered to try Cytopoint injections for $163 a month or as needed. I read about bovine colostrum and decided it was worth a try. We stopped giving Louis Apoquel and instead gave him a teaspoon of bovine colostrum mixed with some water to make a paste. He loves it and licks the plate clean! Some reviewers said their dog got sick when they added the powder to their food. I give Louis colostrum in the morning about an hour before feeding. I am happy to announce that Louie is a new dog! It's been 2 months and Louis is doing great! I still feed him 4 Health Formula dog food, duck and potatoes and dry him off when he's been outside, but he's stopped biting, licking and scratching :) He can be petted and no longer flinches. His fur is softer and lighter and his eyes are clear and alert now. You can see that he is doing well! I'm not a vet, but if you have an allergic dog, try this remedy. Colostrum is natural, cheaper and works better on our dog than Apoquel.
