Great for the price

We bought this for our teenage son as a gaming/school chair. We also bought it on sale when it was on sale for less than $80 with free shipping via Prime. At this price I think it's a really good deal, but at the current price of over $100 we would spend a few dollars more and get a slightly better quality chair. The Essentials chair was easy enough to put together with the recline mechanism fully assembled except for the lift stand. The seat and back cushions were fully assembled and only had to be attached to each other and to the armrests with a few screws. The armrests, although not adjustable, fold down along the seat back (see photos). I have seen many reviews suggesting this chair is suitable for weights up to 250lbs and up. This may be for weeks or months, but I don't expect it to last long with this type of usage. My son is about 5ft 7in and weighs 130lbs so this chair is perfect for him and those of a similarly small stature. After sitting in it for a few minutes, I could tell that the cushions and frame were not designed to support heavy weights for long periods of time. I also see many reviews raving about the high quality of this chair. I also think they are a bit wrong. The Essentials chair is 90% plastic, and even the base plate (see pictures) for the seat and the recline mechanism are low-quality .125-inch-thick material (which I expect will break fairly easily if too much weight or stress is exerted). The only metal components are the lifting column, tilt bar, vertical roller pins and some parts. The material covering the cushions and armrests is also inferior leather (vinyl?) or fabric, which is much thinner than higher quality chairs. The stitching is also bad in many places (see photos) and I expect this will be one of the first things to fail. As I mentioned in the first part of my review, this is a great chair for $80 or more. fewer. But there's a reason office chairs like Broyhill, LazyBoy, and DxRacer cost at least three times as much as Essentials chairs. A higher quality chair will have better/thicker cushions and covers, will be made primarily of wood, steel or composites instead of inferior plastic, and will last in excess of 6-12 months with regular use. With comfort, style and service life in mind. There is absolutely no comparison between this Essentials chair and the Broyhill office chair I have in my home office. I bought a Broyhill in May 2011 for over $300. I think the Essentials chair will last my son 2 years or more, but I also expect it to last less than 12 months if I or someone the same size uses it regularly. . I need at least 6-8 Essentials chairs at the same time as a Broyhill office chair. Again, the Essentials chair is great at this price point (that's why I gave it 4 stars), but it's by no means equal to or better than most more expensive chairs.
