In normal operation, each card slot appears as a separate drive letter in Windows Explorer. After the 30-day return period, the drives no longer showed up in File Explorer until they were recovered through a reboot. After about a month, even a reboot didn't solve the problem, and on top of that, the Logitech keyboard intermittently lost characters sent through its Unifying USB receiver. I unplugged this keyboard and plugged in another keyboard with the same intermittent results. The original keyboard attached and worked perfectly on the laptop. Yesterday I unplugged the power and USB cable for this desktop card reader and since then the keyboard has been working fine again. I give this reader 2 stars instead of 1 because it was an educational experience. The lesson learned is not to clutter the desktop by constantly adding 5 new drives, most of which are never used and 1 that is rarely used. A better choice would be an external USB card reader, so reading the cards is like using a USB flash drive, where the drive only mounts when it's inserted and can be ejected. and safely remove it from the system.
