I've had one of these for over two weeks now and it has never changed color. Therefore, the steel material is legal. I really liked it and you can attach whatever you want to it. The only downside I would say is that the small end ring can easily fall off as it can be too wide. But other than that it's a great product and the package contains a whole set, not just one!
