In this review I can offer two perspectives: mine and my cats. In my opinion: This is a good sized (2 x 2 1/2 foot) heat mat with a soft plush finish. The cover is closed with a zipper and can be removed for washing. Under the lid is a heating mat with spirals inside. It seemed to me that when the carpet was heated, the heat was distributed unevenly and one side appeared much cooler than the other. I felt the on/off functionality could be improved as well; It turns on when plugged in and there's no on/off switch, making it a bit inconvenient if your outlet is behind furniture or hard to reach like ours. It is important that the rug is level so that it works well in the corner of a room or can also be helpful for pets that stay in a cooler garage to keep warm. So to sum up my point, a nice soft mat with uneven heat and an on/off system that could be improved. Now to perhaps the most important thing: my cats. We originally placed it at our elderly cat's favorite resting spot who we think has arthritis so we wanted her to have a warm spot. We noticed that he lay down on different parts of it, even the one that seemed a bit cooler to us, and seemed to enjoy the whole mat. The rug was then unfortunately discovered by our youngest cat and quickly became a contentious place in the house, with each cat circling whoever was securing the rug and trying to intimidate the other. Sometimes they managed to strike an uneasy truce and share a favorite rug, but we figured we'd probably have to buy another one at some point to prevent bloodshed.
