Very often this model is compared with the EF 50 mm F / 1.8, as they often choose between this lens and the subject. I tried both. At first I bought 1.8 and was quite pleased with it, but he ordered to live a long time, unable to withstand the impact of falling on the asphalt along with the carcass. The carcass, thank God, was intact. And then I bought 1.4. The difference is immediately evident. 1.4 is heavier and larger than its little brother. 1.8 - buzzes like a bee, and 1.4 slightly rustles. Focusing speed 1.4 is faster than 1.8, but not very much. It cannot be called instantaneous. The sharpness of 1.4 is significantly higher than that of 1.8, especially at apertures smaller than F / 3.2, but 1.8 practically does not chromate. the bokeh pattern in 1.8 is rustic - in the form of pentagons, and in 1.4 it is almost round, which cannot but rejoice when shooting during the day. Both lenses have the same minimum distance to the subject - 45 cm. Together with a shallow depth of field, this is an important obstacle for macro photography. It's very easy to miss with your hands. But if you use a tripod, and even aim through live view, the result will shock you to the core. Sharpness in the focus area is piercing. Using this lens on cropped sensor bodies turns the lens into a portrait lens. At the moment, he is standing on the carcass as a staff member, and this is quite justified.
