I created a new little garden with raised beds that the neighborhood cats immediately used as their personal kennel. I bought this rug and although it is small I could lay it across the middle. The cat(s) tried to push him away so I used some longer garden stakes (instead of the ones that came with the kit) and now there are no more problems. So far, so good. It looks like he'll last through this season at least, but time will tell.
