I bought it for my grandmother because we have similar ones at home. Children like the ones at home, but the ones at home are bigger. It's not fair to compare them to homemade ones. In this set, the squares are approximately 1 inch and the house squares are approximately 2 inches. So if you're buying these with a set you already own, be sure to check your measurements. These blocks work great! For the size of the magnet in them, they stick together incredibly well. They are strong enough to hang 4 to 5 squares in the air. There were many different shapes in this set. Children and we adults have spent a lot of time creating all sorts of things. It's just as fun as Lego, but I think it's easier for younger kids to play with and get creative with. Irreplaceable for children from 1.5 years!
