Excellent quality D3K for DSLR

Having used the Nikon D3000 for a month and over 500 shots, I can say that it is worth every penny of its price ($500 on 04/12/09). ).one. Easy to use.2. The controls are well thought out 3. AF lens kit is fast and quiet.4. The size is reasonable for small hands (mine).5. Ability to use Nikon lenses with F-mount (autofocus or not). While there is an 'oops' moment from time to time, bugs are easy to fix and, of course, being digital, bugs are removed free of charge. What can not be said about film cameras. In addition to the Whale lens, I bought a friend's Sigma 70-300 lens. Although it's called an autofocus lens because it doesn't have its own motor, it's not available on the D3K. Manual focusing is a bit tedious as you have to learn it over and over again. But if I do it right WOW! Good clear picture. The only real gripe isn't with the camera itself, but with the star. It is the lack of REAL leadership. The 60-page "manual" merely highlights the camera's many controls and menus and doesn't go into too much detail. The main manual is a 216-page PDF file that can be downloaded to a PC and is called the reference manual. I call it the "User's Guide" and these little 60-page "Quick Reference". The Makens book I bought from D3K has a lot of useful information, but having a printed manual would be better than buying your own paper copy.
