The texture on the surface is very strong (like the skin of a heavy truck) and the adhesive is very sticky. We've used it over doorways (drywall with a demountable texture) with fancy steps and we've used a construction stapler to make sure it stays in place so I don't know if it can handle itself. When we glued it to the sides of the steps (blank tile), it peeled off a bit around the edges. I was able to glue it back on and it seems to be holding. I plan to use super sticky double sided tape if this happens again. The pattern on the front draws attention and seems to keep people from tripping. I actually ran out when I still had a few fancy steps to write down and will be buying another roll of this stuff. I give it 5 stars because my only criticism is the stickiness and the truth is it's sticky enough for most uses. If you want it to be more sticky, just buy super adhesive double-sided corner tape or staple like I did.
