Great after installation

These standoffs are great after installation, but there are some less-intuitive things you need to know to make installation easier. Unfortunately, there are no instructions included, so I learned by doing. First, support the top gate with a broom so it doesn't fall on your head while you work. first the old frame. This allows you to move the rack, making it easier to access and remove the screws at the top. Install the new ones in reverse order but leave the top screws slightly loose until you have connected the bottom ball/clamp connection. align exactly with your mounting points. Fourth and my biggest discovery. The posts can swing to either side due to the ball joint on the side of the top screw, and they seem to be able to swing more to the side thanks to the rounded pin head that goes through that ball joint. Therefore, install the screw end of the strut so that the rounded pin faces the outside of the vehicle (ie the rounded heads of the two struts face each other), see fig. This allows the rack to swing more to accommodate the lower clamp/ball end with the touring car attachment point to connect, and reduce the overall load on the luggage rack while driving. used to connect the bottom bracket/ball side of the rack. So I used one of the clips from my old racks to secure it and it worked great. Note: You don't have to pull the clip out all the way to disconnect or reconnect it. Once installed they work great; My Jeep's tailgate opens like new!
