Review on Nikon Close Up Operation Control Cameras by Cornelius Mosley

I have a dual Canon and Nikon system. I love the Nikon CLS system and have the legendary 105mm f/2.8 VR, SU-800, R1C1(R200) and a pair of SB-600/800 which I use to create a variety of products such as diamonds, rings and jewelry photograph in general. This is the setup I use 80% of the time and I really like it. Sometimes I need a zoom ratio higher than 1:1, and since Nikon doesn't have a lens that gives me a zoom ratio higher than 1:1, I bought an amazing Canon MP-E 65mm (which Nikon doesn't have). , which I also really like, along with a cheap Rebel case. Here's the problem: you really need a flash when using a Canon MP-E 65mm at 5x because there just isn't enough light. I could buy a Canon MR-14EX for $420 or a Canon MT-24EX for $605. I would take the Canon e-TTL2 with these two good flashes. However, I just couldn't justify buying more Canon gear than I really needed. Instead, here's what I did: I bought SC-30 cables. I would mount the SU-800 on top of the Rebel (no problem as you get the same basic pins while cutting off the dedicated Canon/Nikon pins) and then connect the SU-800 to the R200 flash via this SC-30. Voila! I can now reuse Nikon R200 flashes with my Canon + MP-E 65mm. I just saved myself an extra $320 and a lot of space. Yes, you lose the Canon e-TTL2, but if you're shooting macro/micro you'll still get much more consistent results with full manual exposure and manual flash control. The SC-30 is made by Nikon and almost every gold frame lens and professional body I own has legendary build quality, so I usually give this cable 5 stars. But IMHO the price is too high. I'd be happy if it was $50, but it's not. So 4 stars.
