Review on πŸ”˜ Enhance Your Microsoft Surface Experience with the Innovative Surface Dial by Art Porras

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great device, needs application support

Just recently discovered OneNote as a tool for debugging, tracing logic of old programs, coming up with design ideas for projects around the house and developing software, etc. I bought MS Dial exclusively for use with OneNote for quick pen thickness/color changes. Unfortunately, the OneNote team did not or could not integrate the functionality of MS DIal into the core functionality of the pen. This was a big disappointment. However, I was able to use the MS Dial to build and debug VS 2017. I like to do this by rotating or typing the MS Dial. In that regard, I found adequate value for my purchase. While scrolling through documents/webpages and adjusting speaker volume is cool, the MS Dial is also an expensive alternative to what the MS Arc Mouse does quite well. As others have pointed out, the MS Dial is another excellent Surface device that gets the job done in a new, interesting, and intuitive way. Too bad its usefulness hasn't been included in the wide range of excellent MS software. I gave it a star because it takes time to wake up. Although I did improve responsiveness a bit by disabling BT power management for HID devices using Device Manager. This is actually not good as it defeats the purpose of power management. But it allows me to get some return on my investment while MS software development teams work together with the ingenuity of MS engineers.
