Modern minimalist perfection!

The surface dial takes some time to learn and get used to. But so was my very first computer mouse. Microsoft has a winner here 4 designs on Surface products. Although the Surface Dial works with my regular PC, I'm hoping Microsoft expands its capabilities to work with more apps on a regular desktop PC. At first glance, however, this is an extremely complex and minimalist design that gets the job done. I love the new design direction for all Microsoft products. They are all just beautiful and I

I liked the idea of this device

I personally liked the idea of this device but for $80 probably not worth the money, I bought it for digital art and photoshop, it works with some features but not versatile enough to replace keyboard shortcuts, so I end up using the keyboard for whatever functions it can perform. It might just be the software side of things, and I didn't map the extras either, but overall I feel like it's more of a gimmick, especially given that the touchscreen all but eliminates the need for zooming and…

So awesome but falling asleep kills it

So I bought this to make it easier to set up tools in Lightroom and control the volume since my new keyboard didn't have a volume slider. It worked well for both options, the feel is amazing, the clicks just keep it going all day. However, the fatal flaw is that on my computer at least, if you leave it alone for about 30-1 minutes, it goes to sleep and wakes up after about 5-10 seconds. This means that every time you want to adjust the volume or tune an instrument, you have to wait for it. I…

Great for scrolling

I'm using this with a Surface Pro 6 and when I'm not drawing with the Surface Pen I usually use it for scrolling. When drawing in recent applications, you can easily change colors, tools and other variables that may vary depending on the application you use. I think a popular use in a drawing application might be to change the gradation on the dial with the left hand while drawing with the stylus with the right hand. You can change the behavior by holding the button for a few seconds. It's…

Great device, needs application support

Just recently discovered OneNote as a tool for debugging, tracing logic of old programs, coming up with design ideas for projects around the house and developing software, etc. I bought MS Dial exclusively for use with OneNote for quick pen thickness/color changes. Unfortunately, the OneNote team did not or could not integrate the functionality of MS DIal into the core functionality of the pen. This was a big disappointment. However, I was able to use the MS Dial to build and debug VS 2017. I…

Fatally Buggy Software

This device is well built, physically handsome and smooth as butter. The software/drivers for it are just terrible. Stay away! The device goes to sleep after a few minutes and wakes up after a few seconds. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but it is. You have no idea if it works or not. The watch face only works with some programs. For example, it didn't control Skype audio, which is one of the main reasons I bought this thing. To find a workaround, I went to the wheel interface and added Skype…
