Review on Osprey Levity Parallax: Sleek Silver Black Backpack by Jerry Mackey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very light backpack with excellent ventilation but good value for money

The Osprey Levity 60 is a very light backpack as advertised and the ventilation is fantastic. But on the way to going that simple, I had to make some compromises. There is a large main compartment and a smaller one above to store phones, wallets etc. There is also a hydration bladder compartment if you wish. Turn on the humidifier (not included). The backpack has a large compartment for small items, which has compartments on the sides and closes with a buckle at the top. So there is no separate compartment for a sleeping bag or other storage options, and no rain cover. Packing the backpack is a bit difficult due to the curvature of the backpack. My last backpack was an old school Dana design backpack with metal springs and it was easy to pack as everything fit right in. I used packing cubes to organize things and to get the cube onto the bottom of the Osprey Levity I had to force things. around the arched back. I'm 6ft 2in and the medium sized Osprey Levity 60 sat very comfortably on my hips but was a bit high on my shoulders even with the straps holding it snugly on my shoulders. The hip belt is only a few centimeters soft, after that it's just a nylon belt. This backpack isn't designed for long trips and I wonder if the straps will get uncomfortable midweek, but I don't think so. The Osprey Levity 60 uses tiny plastic pull locks and buckles. I think I have medium sized side fingers but I found some of them difficult to open and close, especially the strap at the top of the backpack. There's no way I could work on turnbuckles and buckles with cold hands. I understand this is a light backpack but it could really benefit from bigger buckles. Osprey also used a thin compression cord on the pack instead of nylon straps, which I think makes the cords more prone to breakage, but again, time will tell. The material used for the backpack is thin as advertised but durable. , for those who really want to minimize weight at all costs, this is a great backpack. It sits well on the hips and has excellent ventilation. I could walk fully loaded with this backpack all day. But for those who want a backpack with more features and easier handling in terms of comfort (padded waist belt) or buckles that are easy to operate with wet or cold fingers, this backpack is not for you.
