Last time in the field I dealt with a full bear tin can and all the attendant junk of my culinary pocket meals. I figured there must be a better way. After doing some math, I figured I could get a larger pot (this one) along with some titanium plates and save space in my bear jar by repackaging dehydrated foods (Berghaus) into lighter, denser plastic bags. Then I just cook the food in the pan itself. By getting rid of the oversized and heavy food packaging, I get a lot more in my bear jar. As a bonus, my weight savings evens out after about 2 days of eating for 2, and each additional day is easier than storing the packet and boiled water in a smaller pot. As a second bonus, this pot easily fits through a hole in my Bear Vault (Bear Vault) so I can exit with food if needed. By purchasing this pot I have increased my possible travel time from 4 days to 6 days (meal for 2 people). As mentioned in the title, this pot was bought for a very specific reason, to extend the time in the field of my bear jar. However, this is a model pot. It weighs next to nothing, packs away easily and is big enough to hold all of my kitchen gear including stove and fuel. I see myself using this for large groups even if my bear isn't going along.
