This is a very simple tool. There is no power switch. You plug it in to turn it on and unplug it to turn it off. Plates are also not removed for cleaning. You should put some soap on it and be careful not to spill too much water on the device as it is an electrical device and cannot be submerged under water. Then take a clean towel dipped in cold water and wipe the soap off several times until you can be sure your food will not taste like soap the next time you use it. You get what you pay for.
