I bought two of these lights to use over my dining table. The desk is under a vaulted ceiling with no AC power, so battery life was the main reason I chose it. As others have pointed out, installing these fixtures is a challenge. I had two slightly different mounting kits. One of them looks like an attempt to fix the shortcomings of the previous project, but in the process it manages to introduce another shortcoming. They are not for the inexperienced or ill-equipped handyman. The light output is sufficient for general basic lighting above the dining table. Not bright enough for playing or crafting. They were dimmer than a 40w incandescent bulb. I would rate them in the 25-30W incandescent range. I chose the color "Bronze". It actually looks more like a dark brown, but the lamp is easy to disassemble and can easily be repainted in any color you want. Glass flasks are fragile. They don't have the durable glass feel like a glass casserole dish. One of mine arrived with a small chip on the rim but it's hardly noticeable and shouldn't be sent back. The lamps are packaged in some sort of flimsy foam that falls apart if you try to open it. Expect mayhem. The biggest downside I found was the use of alkaline "D" elements. They are expensive and environmentally friendly. Using rechargeable batteries is not really an option as rechargeable batteries are typically 0.3 volts less than alkaline batteries and with three batteries the difference is almost a volt. This further reduces the light output. Of course, I was aware of that when I bought the bulbs, but I equipped them with batteries and LEDs with a higher wattage. This is not a modification for the inexperienced. It includes the development of circuits to protect against battery deep discharge and thermal issues with higher power LEDs. The operating time after the modification is about two hours, with the light output of each lamp equal to 100 W of an incandescent lamp. The battery pack can be replaced for longer operation. Basically I am satisfied with the lamps. It took a lot of work to get them right for my application, but the results were worth it.
