Shrinks 5cm on first wash/dry

Light flannel. It looked beautiful. The size and length of the medium was perfect for my husband (5ft 11in, 170#) out of the box, but it shrunk 2 inches in length on the first wash/dry (low heat setting), making them too short. Apparently the fabric was not subjected to any pre-shrinkage.
