This is not a jacket but a thin fleece sweatshirt. It's very soft, the cut is more athletic so I would take a size up than you would expect your child to if they need some space. (Especially to wear a long sleeve or semi-wobbly shirt underneath.) It's the perfect fit and thickness to wear UNDER an all-weather jacket to add some warmth to the other jacket. This alone will in no way protect your child from feeling the wind, and if the temperature is below 50 degrees and it's windy (e.g. Midwest fall weather), he'll be cold. My son loves it, will end up staying with him but probably wouldn't have ordered it had I known. Maybe, Spent the money on a real jacket instead, but it will come in handy. Not a complete waste.
