I work in a fabrication shop and so far they have held up very well. The length is almost perfect, the phone is in the pocket and the other end is connected to the headphones. Most of my colleagues use Bluetooth. they recharge in the middle of the day and I can work the whole shift. The 90° connector is great for removing the sideways strain from the 3.5mm jack when my phone is in my pocket. I could see that it doesn't work if you have a thick/bulky phone case. 90° would also be fine in a tight spot if you need to connect something. (Let's say your device is near a wall.) Hanging the cord instead of straight also relieves stress on the jack. It also reduces the chance of someone getting too close and breaking the fork/jack if caught.
