Review on HP 2020 Laptop with 17.3-Inch HD+ Screen by Ryan Vaughn

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good basic laptop for computers and tablets

I describe it as basic because of its 256GB hard drive and average (i5) processor. That's pretty much what you'd expect from HP. There are two issues to be aware of when purchasing this one. First, it comes with Windows Home in S mode. S mode apparently stands for 'safe', but it's ridiculously restrictive. For example, you can only use Edge with it. You cannot download anything from anywhere other than Microsoft. Even McAfee, which comes with a 30-day trial version with this computer, cannot be downloaded. So the first thing I recommend you do is turn off S mode — essentially by switching to Windows Home. This is easily done via Settings/Update and Security/Activation. Select "Go to Store" and then "Turn off S mode" and then "Get". Secondly, you should know that the DVD player, which is quite weak at first, is not set to any region from the factory. That means you can't play a typical American movie without going into Device Manager; When the Device Manager window opens, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right click on your DVD player and select "Properties". Click the DVD Region tab. Select the region you want to switch to and click OK. Apart from these two small problems, the PC looks satisfactory with a good 17-inch screen.
