This protects it from minor scratches, but I don't think it protects from damage from a fall. I use my iPad mostly at home and it's mostly carpeted so this works for me. The iPad Air 2 is noticeably thinner and lighter if you're upgrading from a previous model (1-4), so you'll be blown away by its size and weight. So I think a thicker case would be a better choice for me personally. But this case is great if you just want to slip your iPad into your bag or briefcase. It is unlikely that he will take the place. Again, don't drop it on a tiled floor or sidewalk! The lid is smart and folds over the screen, which turns on and off depending on what the lid is doing (turns on when you open it, turns off when you close it) so it offers good screen protection.
