Review on ViewSonic VX2718 P MHD Frameless Monitor: A High Refresh Rate, Adaptive Sync, and Anti-Glare Display Experience by Matt Miller

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It's pretty good for the price.

First, I'm new to DisplayPort monitors. This is my first time using a DP monitor and from what I've read there are better options. When you turn off the monitor, the computer knows about it and changes the position of all icons and windows on the desktop. Some manufacturers/models have an option in the OSD menu to disable sending this information to the PC, but not this one. There's a similar option, but it doesn't do anything. I ended up buying a $10 dummy HDMI display dongle and plugging it into an available HDMI port on my graphics card and then cloning my DP monitor to it (in Windows display settings). ). Now I can turn off the monitor and the PC still thinks the display is on (dummy HDMI display) so the icons/window layout don't move. Also, this monitor worked well at night when my computer was idle. . Now the screen randomly wakes up from time to time and it also wakes up my other 2 monitors and lights up my whole room. The light has woken me up several times, it's so bright. I've tried putting my computer to sleep, but it wakes the computer even from sleep. WTF? I got so tired of fighting this that I started putting the computer to sleep overnight and then turning off the switch on the power supply to make sure NOTHING was turning the computer on. I never had this problem before buying this monitor. Actually I didn't have this problem for the first few weeks and then one day it suddenly started. I suspect it might be a Windows update, but I've searched the web and haven't found anyone complaining about this issue, so I'm guessing it's not a Windows update error. When I turn off this DP monitor at night everything is fine and the other two monitors NEVER wake up and everything is fine and dark all night. If I leave this monitor on and wait for it to go to sleep, it's only a matter of time before it accidentally wakes up and the other monitors with it. Somehow this monitor wakes up the computer as if I moved the mouse or pressed a key on the keyboard. Wow. Plus, as long as you turn off your monitor, that's pretty darn good. Colors are great, viewing angles are good, and 144Hz is a good beginner monitor for gaming. I connected it to a GTX1060 6GB with G-Sync enabled (in FreeSync compatible mode) and it works great. For about 2 or 3 weeks, the monitor sometimes flashes for 2 seconds and then turns on again. Don't do it very often, maybe 2-3 times a week. I didn't have it while gaming, but sometimes not when I'm working. I can only imagine if I was playing a game and in a hot moment the monitor would just turn off for 2 seconds and I would die. i would be so angry To be honest if I could do it again I'm not sure I would buy this monitor I would keep looking. For the most part it's pretty good. As long as the screen doesn't flicker when playing, I'll give it 4 stars.
