If you are reading this review, you most likely know cats. And if you know cats, you know that they are often the enigma of delicate fussiness. One day they don't like the new food you're serving them, the next day they can't get enough of it. Not all cats get this hot and cold, but one of mine does, and although she wrinkled her nose and walked away the first time I gave her Adirondack's Whitefish and Lentils Recipe Cat Food, two days later she ate it whole with gusto. I have no explanation for this, so I'll share MY observations instead of theirs. I was unfamiliar with the Adirondack brand before ordering this whitefish lentil flavor. When I first opened the package, I almost threw up. Wow! What a strong fishy smell! But it smells like *fresh* fish, and I figured it would probably be a lot more appealing to cats than the overcooked, preservative-laden bits found in more readily available dry cat food. It's a pretty nasty smell to me, but at least it's a recognizable smell of real food. This seems to be the company's focus and direction: pure, genuine ingredients, carefully selected to provide the best possible nutrition for your cat. I love that this is a grain free formula so there are no unnecessary fillers, many of which are known allergens. The kibbles are triangular in shape, like the letter "A" in the word "Adirondack," and are fairly large. The bag closes with Velcro. I've never seen that before! I think that makes for a better seal, which is probably a good idea when you're talking about such a spicy product. I also love that it's made in the USA - not far from my hometown! Of my two kittens, one doesn't seem particularly fond of fish, so I wasn't surprised Paisley wasn't particularly interested in this food. But Prudence has always loved fish, so I didn't expect her to turn it down without even trying it. The first day I thought it was a failed experiment, but I decided to try again. Paisley started her new meal this morning, but Prue almost ate her entire plate, which she never does! In the future I will likely mix this into her current feed, which I probably should have done from the start. Maybe they'll come to their senses once they get used to the smell and taste, but I won't insist. It's quite expensive for cat food, although I understand it can be of a lot better quality than most. However, that's beyond my budget. If your cat has allergies or digestive issues I would definitely recommend trying this. Otherwise, I'm not sure if it's worth it.
