looks good, works well

I like this lamp. Yes it needs batteries to operate and yes batteries are dead but I got through a couple of weeks with a fresh set of Revain batteries put in and running it every day, usually at moderate light levels. A few nights I forgot to turn it off and it burned all night. For now, it's still running a few weeks later on the same batteries, but its light is pretty dim. I need to put new batteries in. All in all, this light works great. And it looks good too, at least to me. I have a home with traditional furniture and lots of art, mostly gold frames, including paintings that hang in dark places that need light. I'm interested in this battery work, not installing wired lamps or hanging electrical cords under all the paintings. Parts of this lantern are made of plastic, but this is not noticeable. The lighting is sufficient for my purposes for medium-sized murals. It illuminates the painting very well, about 22 inches long and 17 inches high. It's bright enough for most tastes, on the brightest setting I think. For my purposes, I turn it down about halfway from the brightest setting. Enough remote control. You have to be close enough and point it straight ahead for it to work sometimes. The dimming function is stepless, so there are theoretically an infinite number of settings. I love blackouts. You can also turn it on, off and dim it without a remote by pressing your finger on the right end of the lens hood above the lights themselves, where there's a button that subtly blends into the design. I like them so much that I intend to buy a few more, including a smaller version with a light for a small picture. I think the $33 price tag is fair for what they are.
