I have tried other seaweed scrapers before and most had rather weak handles. If I applied too much force, the handle would have broken. I'm not worried about this scraper. Very strong and thick grip, I put a lot of pressure on it in some hard to reach places and it got them done with ease. I've found that the key to algae control is regular glass cleaning. If you wait months, it will become so thick and hard that it will be very difficult to remove. Once you've cleaned your jar well, simply maintain it every week or so, making subsequent cleaning that much easier.
