Terrible sound quality

I have a set of Master & Dynamic headphones but have had to upgrade my phone to the new iPhone 11 which of course lacks the 3.5mm jack. I bought these because my M&D headphones have a detachable cord. Arrived in the mail today, sound quality sucks. I was trying to play 82nd All The Way by Sabaton and it sounds like a distorted mess coming from the house across the street. I will definitely be returning these.
