I would actually put 4.5. First, I live in the low desert of California, where days add up to months when it looks like Mercury's surface. There's no way this micro swamp cooler will cool my (and probably not your) room. However, it's great to place on a table near your work station (or on a couch) to add a cool breeze. I think I saved a few bucks by being able to boost the air conditioning a bit when using this cooler around me when I'm basically in the same place for a few hours. My favorite thing to do is put it on my bedside table and leave it on all night (YES, just fill it up and it will run flawlessly all night and longer!). I sincerely believe I'm sleeping better and possibly even more oxygenated sleep. If you are very sensitive to noise, this may not be for you. I just think of fan flapping as a cat purring and I'm fine. I love its carrying strap and the fact that I can use tap water. I removed the back panel to clean the filter and was surprised that it looked cheap and was disappointed. It's a really strong material but very porous so I got the impression it doesn't trap solid particles. I'll find a HEPA filter that I can cut out and replace with another one. Hopefully it won't cause any mechanical problems. In conclusion, where I live, sandstorms are not uncommon and since I'm not the best housewife in the world there is sometimes a little dust in my apartment, but when I wake up in the morning I feel like this little machine is helping me breathe . (and sleep) better.
