Review on Dorman 973 411 Blower Motor Resistor by Matt Kucrud

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Comes with everything you need to make a cheap repair

I got this for my 2000 Explorer off-road stick and it matched the original part perfectly. I was wondering why it came with a new connector and pigtail wiring. During disassembly I discovered that Ford uses a standard "in-cabin" connector that has unsealed exposed leads on the wire side of the connector for the connector that the Ford engineer designed for placement on the engine bay side of the HVAC housing has selected. Plug and resistor fused due to rust. Great job Ford... . So the pigtail connection came in handy. Thanks Dorman. The only bad thing I can say about this product is that it comes with butt connectors that have heat shrink tubing around them that doesn't seal completely. NEVER USE CONNECTORS TO REPAIR WIRES IN A CIRCUIT EXPOSED TO THE WEATHER! ! ! I installed mine with good quality heat shrink tubing over the correct wire to wire solder so the wire connections for the 5 wire resistive connector will last as long as it takes to make a proper electrical repair. It might not matter as the Dorman part uses the same type of connector as the Ford and the resistor will probably fail before my electrical work due to corrosion. Anyway, five stars given the price and the fact that you get everything you need to get the job done, despite my personal dislike of using butt connectors on weathered cables.
