Review on 🐾 Enhance Dog Training Efforts with the PetSafe Treat Pouch Sport- Durable & Convenient by Jessica Duran

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Ideal with multiple settings; 16 Months Later - Still Happy

I bought the mini bag about 7 months ago and have used it 2-5 times a day to train a young Rottie. There were no issues with the quality/function of the spring hinge. This is the perfect size for training puppies or beginning adult dogs when sessions are short and you don't need to carry lots of treats. Yes, I had to adjust it a bit. First, when training on a leash you tend to hold most of the leash in your right hand while keeping your left hand free to encourage the behavior. Because the loop is very strong, it's impossible to open the bag with one hand if it accidentally slams during the session (and it will). I solved this problem by attaching a small, thick, strong magnet to the inside corner loop so it doesn't close as tightly. Now there's enough room for me to slide a few fingers off one hand to open it again. Second, there's a central flap inside the pouch that serves as a nice divider between the usual treats like kibble and expensive treats like chicken. or hot dog bites if your dog is doing something extra special. However, since the flap has a Velcro that grips one side of the inner pouch, it automatically seals one side of the treat open and the other closed. Again, it is impossible to quickly open the valve to access a different value treat with just one free hand. I solved this problem by taking a small single-sided piece of velcro and attaching it to the velcro tab on the flap. Now he can't grab the inside of the bag and seal himself. I can move the center divider back and forth with my finger at will, depending on what valuable treat I want to offer. ; I have to take more treats than my mini bag can fit. My only criticism of this new standard bag is that the center divider flap only pops up halfway, which doesn't make sense to me. If you fill each side with different treats, the valve will be too low to separate them. I need to find out how to do it. Both pouches are washable, but I hand wash and dry quickly to keep the loops from rusting. You can just pour kibble on one side and a handful of perishable treats on the other and it won't leak, but then you'll need to store the bag in the fridge to prevent bacterial growth between sessions. I use a mini snack bag and a standard sandwich bag for dirty treats. At the end of each session, I pull out the bag, seal it, and toss it in the freezer until next time. Reduces washing time. Both bags come with a very well made strap and clip. I didn't use a clip, but the strap is so smooth you can easily move the pouch from your left thigh to your mid-back with your free hand. In this position, even with the pouch open, I never spilled anything when I had to bend down to tie a shoelace, point to a dropped treat, or sit down to take a break. The bag is suitable for carrying your phone, keys, grocery bags, etc. It has enough space for treats. I dug up an old fanny pack that had been discarded a few years ago due to vanity issues and cut off the strap. I attached small sections of the belt to loops on the back of the belt bag and placed them on top of the large belt that comes with the bags. Voila! Now when we're doing trails I can carry supplies on my right hip and treats in a pocket on my left (and it doesn't look like a fanny pack anymore!). If we don't leave a mark, it will slide off until needed again. I can highly recommend one/both bags. Improvements were not long in coming. I doubt there is a bag that is perfect in every way. These bags are coming close. Today is 11/11/21. FYI I purchased this treat bag back in July 2020. Since then, I've been training with it at least once a day, every day, and the hinge still works.
