After cutting my thumb twice I knew I needed something to keep my fingers off the knife. I like the "combs" as they hold my veggies while I chop them. I actually cut faster because I don't have to be careful with the knife. Everything is fine with the other device. I used it to cut garlic and it got stuck in the blades.
