My MIL has an old VCR and a newer TV. She needed a way to hook up that VCR, but the only connections it has are coax and analog/composite (red, white and yellow cords). This contraption allowed her to connect the VCR to the TV through one of the HDMI connections. The picture will never be hi def due to the limitations of the VCR, but it got the job done, so now she can watch all of those old VCR tapes! I have one of thse contraptions as well, and I use it to connect my old portable DVD player to my flat screen TV.
