Review on πŸ“· Canon EOS Elan IIe 35mm SLR Camera Body by Gonzalo Marshall

Beautiful camera, just great!

I decided to write a review on the Canon Elan IIe as many of them were released in 2000 and really don't stand up to today's standard of technological advancement in terms of camera technology. In 2000, digital SLR cameras were only 3 megapixels, maybe 6 megapixels, and digital cameras were still in their infancy. Film camera makers of the time took advantage of this by inventing new ways of capturing images with film, including features like face detection, smile detection, blink detection, etc. But the Elan IIe was released in 1995, which was well before How do All the fancy stuff and digital cameras are taking off, so how does it compare to today's advanced digital cameras? Here's my review: I bought a Canon Elan IIe to get away from my DSLR. I'll admit I'm a DSLR fan, lol. I have a Canon Rebel XSi and 4 lenses and lots of accessories besides the flash. I like DSLRs because of the convenience and ease of use. All you have to do is choose an exposure, take a picture and the chimp (look at the LCD screen to see if you got a picture). Here it is! Then all you have to do is connect it to your computer and upload your photos, then edit them and then print. The Canon Elan IIe is a whole different beast. It shoots movies, doesn't have a fancy LCD screen for viewing photos, or an insane amount of autofocus points. For a beginner, this camera will seem unsuccessful, but here they are mistaken. The Elan IIe is an amazing 35mm SLR with amazing performance never seen before in a DSLR. This simplifies loading the film and even allows you to save the film for later if you don't finish and need another non-overlapping roll. It allows for multiple exposures, up to 9. Its coolest and perhaps best feature is the eye-controlled autofocus. No DSLR has eye-guided autofocus! What is that? This allows the photographer to select AF points with eye movement. It's a crazy feature that takes some getting used to and calibration, but it works! If my Rebel XSi had sight control I would rarely miss it, it's that good. I will use this DSLR as my main camera and use my DSLR for my other projects. This camera is ahead of its time and still capable of taking great photos today. Bravo to Canon for making an exceptional DSLR.

Pros
  • Camera body only; Lens sold separately
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

This camera is a great beginner camera. Beware of sticky shutters though.
