Let me upfront by saying that I've had 60Hz monitors with response times of around 5ms in the past, it goes without saying that this is a huge improvement over the past. The monitor came in its plain packaging with no outer box to hide the contents which annoyed me but no reason to deduct a star from this product. Inside it was covered in styrofoam, with shiny parts covered in thin plastic to prevent staining and initial factory damage. It also comes with a floor mount that helps hide the power cord and DVI cable. Three cables are included: a DVI cable for video, an AUX cable for the built-in speakers and of course a power cable. The AUX cable seems pretty cheap and probably won't take a lot of wear and tear, but both the power cable and the DVI cable seem durable and of better quality. Connections for other inputs such as HDMI and Displayport are also available, however these cables are NOT included, only a dual link DVI cable. A word of caution, while it may just be my cable, I tried plugging in an HDMI cable but it didn't transmit at the full 144Hz, it got limited to around 60Hz. maybe it was my cable specifically, but it should be noted. The monitor comes with a CD that contains some software for managing and configuring various settings, but it is also available directly from the manufacturer's website. Now for the features! The VG248QE has an integrated crosshair adjustment that shows green or red with two different ways on the screen. I think it's a cool concept, even useful in games like Counter Strike, but I have a few criticisms. First, the red crosshair is shifted one pixel to the right, maybe I'm being picky, but it really bothers me! Also, I don't like how fancy the crosshair is, personally I'd prefer a simple + without all the other nonsense around it. And finally, I want the image size to be adjustable. It takes up too much screen space in my opinion, so it would be nice to resize it! It comes with a variety of preset monitor settings including Theater, Gaming, Landscape, Night View, sRGB, and Standard. As far as I can tell the changes are as follows: Landscape Brings colors to life and makes them brighter, which is usually seen at the professional photography level. Games also make colors brighter but with less contrast so you can see the shapes in the frame. dark shadows. It also sharpens the picture and gives defining numbers. I haven't tested the other modes yet, so I can't comment on that. The screen itself rotates 90 degrees clockwise, it can also be rotated on the stand and tilted at an angle of 15 to -5 degrees. and he can move up and down 11 cm. I love the way you move this monitor, it doesn't twitch and there doesn't seem to be any preset locations to set it up, instead it almost flows as you adjust it up and down. I haven't had any issues with it falling or being repositioned in any way either. It's a little disappointing that the viewing angles seem to be quite narrow, and I found it couldn't have too many people around. Now for the things that excite everyone. update frequency. As I've said up until now, every monitor I've had has been a 60Hz monitor. Needless to say, there is a big difference between 60 and 144 Hz. However, I couldn't see it at first, simply because I forgot to go into the NVidia control panel and let my G card run above 60 fps. Once I figure it out, I don't think I'll ever be back! The movement in the game or in the browser is amazingly smooth, so much so that it was very annoying at first. and everything on the screen is much clearer! Your graphics card doesn't need to display blurry images as you create more images every second so they are sharper and more accurate. This improved refresh rate makes this monitor worth every penny! Much too long? Do not read? Here's a quick rundown of Pro's Con's! Pros: 144Hz 1ms response time Multiple screen presets Built-in crosshair Low price compared to other 24" 120/144Hz monitors Cons: Does not come with 3D Gear No USB ports Narrow viewing angle Red crosshair Slightly offset Overall like a die-hard gamer , I highly recommend buying this monitor unless you get 144 fps in game! --- -------------------- ----------------------- --- - ------------------- ----------------------- --- ----- --------------- ---------------------Update: 7-31-14 So after I get this monitor a For a while I tried playing on another monitor at 60Hz, for those who have this monitor you know it hurts to try to go back! it looks so choppy and extremely washed out compared to the ASUS 144HZ. I've had no issues with screen movement so far and not a single dead pixel, while my old 60Hz monitor had about three scattered across the screen. I usually found myself in "Game" mode due to the added ability to see the enemy hidden in the shadows!
