Review on HP X24Ih FHD Gaming Monitor: 144Hz, 1920X1080P, FreeSync, IPS Panel by Marvin Waveyy

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Generally a good monitor, but the backlight is sluggish.

4.4 stars. In general I like it, but it suffers from backlight glare (grey borders on the left and right sides of the screen). CONCLUSION: Don't pay full retail price for it, but it's worth it if it sells for $160 or less and you don't need the rotate/rotate feature. Most people don't "need" a refresh rate higher than 60Hz, but if you're an avid gamer or have very sensitive eyes, it's best to have the 144Hz option. ADVANTAGES: + Exceptional brightness; I had to reduce it to about 50% to make it easier on the eyes. + Easy height adjustment; just slide it up or down. + No bad or stuck pixels initially. + Stand is solid. CONS (minus 0.6 stars): - Does NOT come with a DisplayPort cable (it does come with an HDMI cable). - Bleeding Edge backlight. At this price point ($230 MSRP), there's no excuse. Especially noticeable on the entire left vertical edge of the screen (gray border instead of white) and almost as bad on the right. Fortunately, the translucent/gray border issue is only a distraction when the background is white or very light. Not very noticeable when playing full screen. Sending the monitor back isn't that bad (a nasty process), but I've thought about it. NEUTRAL NEUTRAL RATES: Not easy to fully hide the cables (poor cable management features) unless you've bent them too much as the connectors face bottom-down on the back panel. Windows 10 did NOT automatically install the driver and the DisplayPort connection was not working properly. Had to go to the HP point and find the right one; after manual setting DisplayPort is fine. No rotation/rotation. You can buy another stand that allows it to rotate, but that means spending more dollars. There are several similar HP 24-inch models spinning, for example: DisplayPort)
