I was shocked that the solution to years of irritability was so simple. I received it yesterday and it took 5 minutes to put it on my car. It comes with 5 small plastic clips to keep the cable tidy and prevent it from constantly pulling on the ignition. The clips have a very strong adhesive so make sure you put them in the right place. Mine came with an adapter so I could just plug it into the wall. The light strip itself has an adhesive backing, again a good strong adhesive. If it's too long, measure the length you need and simply cut between the + and - signs to the length you want (see photo). Voila, there's light!
