Review on Wireless Presentation Remote - Effortlessly Deliver Your PowerPoints With Precision by Freddie Newton

Revainrating 3 out of 5

works well enough but 2 design flaws so loses 1 star each for a 3 star rating

I teach for a living so have used powerpoint more times than I can count. I go thru presenter remotes for powerpoint about 1 each 2 years. My last remote was a Logitech and worked great for me. When I ordered this to replace it. I wanted something a bit smaller but am not interested in the long skinny ones like a giant square pencil. I prefer these that can slip in my front pocket during the day and go in my laptop case when I leave to go home. .Ok so here is my honest review:It does work with no issues and the clicks seem firm and solid enough. The construction on it is lacking compared to the Logitech but to be fair it cost $10 vs $30 for the Logitech so to be expected. It used a single 3A battery just like my last one and came with a micro usb which was quite a bit smaller than my last one. The laser worked fine and was actually a bit brighter than my last one so I liked that. Now for the negatives:1. The button layout sucks! Putting the forward and backward buttons out on the edge means you can't conveniently click them while holding the remote. I adapted by holding it canted in my hand so the forward button is easier to click but if I want to back up. I have to shift the remote in my hand. It should have been designed with a up down like Logitech or gone with a smaller central laser button so the forward and backward buttons could be closer to the center and easier to click.2. The micro usb is small but also feels very cheaply made. You can't tell from the pics but when I insert it in my laptop. I have to fiddle with it to insert and it feels like it will fail within a few months. Time will tell but it is really cheap feeling. The microusb also is supposed to store next to the battery. The problem with this is you have to open the battery cover to do that. So I will just bet that the cover over the battery is the first item to fail as they are never designed to be opened and closed daily.3. The remote did not come with a case other than the oversized cardboard box it came in. I store it in my laptop case and the big thick cardboard box is a bad option as it is too bulky. I am going to use my old zip up Logitech case but it should have come with a small fitted zippered case.Ok my final analysis is even with its flaws, it gets 3 stars because it was so low priced. If you are on a tight budget, it will work provided you can live with the design flaws. I will probably be sending mine back and spending more to get one designed with the features I feel are important.

Pros
  • Very good conductivity
Cons
  • The remote may require additional software or drivers to function properly
